Boat trips in Hurghada with kids: minimum age, boats and duration

For a boat trip with children, first check the minimum age for the specific offer. We found no explicit age limit in the short descriptions of our 224 Hurghada offers; full participation conditions are on the booking pages or must be requested from the operator.
Then compare the boat, duration and facilities. Two hours with underwater windows is a different outing from eight and a half hours with snorkelling stops off Giftun.

Five boat trip offers from Hurghada
The large excursion boat. The classic Orange Bay trip in our comparison lasts eight and a half hours and lists lunch. Confirm shade, seating and guest numbers for the boat actually used.
The yacht. The three-island trip with over 8,200 reviews lasts eight hours. The word yacht guarantees neither a small group nor extra space; check occupancy before booking.
The speedboat. A four-hour two-island trip is listed from about €33. The ride can be bumpy in waves. Ask about minimum age, seating and a sun canopy; the word speedboat does not establish these details.
The semi-submarine. Royal Seascope is listed for two hours, with windows below the waterline and a snorkelling stop: from just under €19, over 5,400 reviews. Watching fish does not require swimming. For young children, still confirm the age limit, stairs to the viewing room, life jacket and transfer.
Hula Hula with massage. The catalogue offer lasts eight hours and lists lunch, massage and snorkelling. This establishes neither a minimum age nor an exclusion of children. Ask about music volume, quiet seating and the actual child policy before booking it as a family trip.

What happens on the boat that doesn’t happen on land
Two things that make the difference between beach and boat – and worth talking through with a child beforehand.
You don’t walk into the water, you climb down into it. From the boat, you go down a ladder or a platform into deep water, with no ground underfoot. A child who splashes about happily on the beach can stand there and simply not want to. That’s normal, and it’s no reason to push. On the island beaches off Hurghada – Orange Bay is very shallow – you walk into the water quite normally instead.
An early return is not part of the plan. On the eight-hour three-island trip, you cannot end the outing like a beach visit as soon as your child gets tired. Once the minimum age is confirmed, duration is therefore the next important decision.
The duration on paper isn’t the duration of the day
Shared transfers call at several hotels. Especially from Makadi Bay or Soma Bay, this can lengthen the day. Ask for pickup and return times for your hotel.
Whether this time is included in the stated duration varies from operator to operator. Ask. Eight and a half hours can turn into ten this way, and ten hours with a small child is a different day than eight and a half.
Nine questions to ask before booking
Check the offer description first, then ask the operator about anything unanswered before booking.
- How many guests are on board?
- Is there a covered deck?
- Is there a toilet on board?
- Are there life jackets in children’s sizes?
- Do you enter the water via a ladder or a platform?
- Does the stated time refer to hotel pick-up or departure from the jetty?
- How much is the national park fee, and is it reduced for children?
- Is lunch included, and what’s on offer if a child doesn’t like any of it?
- When are you back at the hotel – not at the harbour?
Clarify question 4 before booking: a life jacket that fits your child must be available. The RNLI stresses that the jacket must fit properly and suit the activity. Ask the operator to confirm the right size and explain how to use it; an oversized adult jacket is not a suitable substitute. RNLI

Sailing time to the Giftun Islands depends on the harbour, boat and itinerary with snorkelling stops. Ask how long you will be at sea without going ashore.
